Side Lever Boat Engines for Land (15 items).

1035b. Brandram Bros. & Co., Rotherhithe (GQ). Nov. 1846, Apr., May 1847, Dec. 1848, May, Aug. 1850, Jan. 1854, Jul. 1882. 15 items.
30 horse power side lever boat engine for land, with 31½ inch cylinder, 3 foot stroke.

"Proposed arrangement for a new 30 horse engine…" - coloured reverse longitudinal section of the engine house and cross-section of the boiler house, plan of the engine and boiler houses showing both engines. These drawings were made in the London office and sent to Soho.
Coloured original and reverse side view and plan of the engine; steam pipes - original and reverse drawings; blow valve, throttle valve and starting gear; sketch of wrought iron shaft by Robert Meiklejohn. All these drawings except the last item bear letter codes.
Also the following later items: large scale coloured longitudinal section of the engine, May 1850; plans and sections of the blowing cylinder - partially coloured drawing made in the London office, Aug. 1850; coloured drawing of piston (with pump gudgeon for New River Head on the same sheet), Jan. 1854; drawing of D slide showing crack, details of slide rod valve (2 copies, 1 on blueprint paper), Jul. 1882; undated tracing of ?.

For Brandram Bros. & Co. Blowing engine, lead works, Rotherhithe, Kent. This was the second 60 horse boat engine bought by the firm [see Portfolio 5/1035a for the first].
