Title
LETTER from Clive Wigram, Buckingham Palace, on behalf of the King, to Bridgeman [W.C.B.].
Date
8 August 1927
Description

Expressing thanks on behalf of the King for letter giving description of the last Act of the Geneva Conference and congratulating W.C.B. on the care and tact with which his final statement was prepared. "There was no phrase that could offend, and yet you managed to throw the responsibility for the adjournment of the Conference on the shoulders of the Americans."

Says that Gibson had a great chance but by the "undignified course he pursued" and by misquoting Lord Balfour and Lord Jellicoe revealed the objectionable attitude of the Americans at the Conference.

H.M. agrees also with Mr. Churchill's speech of Saturday, i.e. "that the First Lord of the Admiralty conducted the British case with the highest tact and skill and with inexhaustible patience".

H.M. gratified to think that W.C.B. able to impress upon Americans that overseas delegates "were one with us" and that happy relations had been established with the Japanese.

Wishes W.C.B. a good holiday in Shropshire and Yorkshire.
