The school was opened on 4 March 1907 and was the first to be established by Bexhill BC which was a part 3 local education authority. The school was reorganised in 1910 into separate mixed and infants' departments. The school was closed on 19 July 1940 and the children evacuated to Hertfordshire. The buildings were occupied by a junior mixed school from August 1941 (renamed Down Council Lower School from January 1942) until September 1944 when the Down Council Infants' School was established
