BADDESLEY CLINTON

Contemporary copy of ?part of the inquisition taken at Warwick 25 September 14 Charles I [1638] by Edward Lapworth gent. Escheator for co. Warwick upon the death of Henry Ferrers esq. The said Henry was seised of the manor, lands and appurtenances of Baddesley Clinton which, by a settlement dated 10 April 26 Elizabeth [1584] made between the said Henry Ferrers and Joan Bradshaugh of Noke, Oxon. widow, Benett Winchcombe of Chalgrove, Oxon. esq. and Randolph Hatton of Holton [Halton], co. Bucks. gent. previous to the marriage of the said Henry and Jane White daughter and co-heiress of Henry White, son of Thomas White knight, were entailed to the said Henry and Jane and their sons up to the fourth son in turn, and then to the male heirs of the said Henry. The said Henry also held a close belonging to the Duchy of Lancaster of Killingworth in Baddesly Clinton called the Walleis or Walles. The said Henry died seised of these lands 10 October 9 Charles I [1633] at Baddesley, the said Jane died during the life-time of the said Henry on 7 September 28 Elizabeth [1586], and Edward Ferrers esq. aged 47 years was the eldest son and heir of the said Henry. The manor of Baddesly, excepting Walleis or Walles, was held of Theophilus, Lord Clinton, Earl of Lincoln for fealty and 1d. annual rent to be paid at Easter if demanded, the annual value being £5. The close called Walleis alias Walles was held of the King as of the Duchy of Lancaster for the annual rent of £5 6s. 8d, the annual value being 20s.
