The depositors father, Jack Meek, was a well known Jewish manufacturer of rainproof and waterproff garments, who had a 'model factory' in Derby Street, Cheetham, M/cr. He was a self made man, born in Manchester and educated at the Jews School. In later years he paid for outings for the pupils of the Jews School to Belle Vue, and was recognised as a communal figure. He laid the foundation stone of Higher Crumpsall Synagogue, and was founder member of Whitefield Golf Club. He was also involved with work for the Jewish Board of Guardians and the Home for the Aged, Needy and Incurable Jews.
