Administrative / biographical background

The project was a collaboration between the Huddersfield Civic Society, JayTee group, Northern Legacy and the Heritage Lottery Fund to preserve the story of the Mill and its workers when the JayTee group began redeveloping the site. Many ex-workers were interviewed for the project, and surviving members of the owners family, the Lumbs, also contributed. The relationship between the owners and employees of the mill was noted throughout the project to be remarkably cordial on both sides, and a model for other workplaces in the area. Research took place not only into the lives of the workers, but also the products and procedures of the mill, and this resulted in a DVD telling its story to be shown throughout the local community. The output was deposited with the University as a Hard Drive and we also host the website. (Source of this information the project website)
