Annual returns giving names, professions and residence of members of the Bank of England Lodge [Moderns]. Includes correspondence relating to the administration of the Lodge. Years 1790, 1791 and 1796 - 1798 are not extant.

Administrative / biographical background

Bank of England Lodge was granted a warrant by the Moderns' Grand Lodge to meet at the Guildhall Coffee House, Gresham Street, City of London as No. 526 on 24 June 1788. In 1792 the Lodge was renumbered as No. 435. After the union between the Moderns' and the Antients' Grand Lodges in 1813 to form the United Grand Lodge of England, the Lodge received the number No. 499. In 1832 the Lodge was given the number No. 329 and in 1863 it was given its present number No. 263. After meeting at several inns, taverns and hotels across London, the Lodge now meets at Freemasons' Hall, Great Queen Street, London.
