Estate papers

Description

This extensive series of estate papers includes deeds, rentals, accounts and surveys which relate primarily to the Nottinghamshire estates centred upon Blyth and Hodsock but also to estates in various other counties including Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Buckinghamshire and Middlesex. Also present are some papers relating to the Barbados estate of Tobias Harvey (d 1708).

However, the bulk of this series consists of correspondence relating to the administration of the estates. In particular, there is a considerable amount of material from the period during which the estates were managed by Mrs Anne Chambers née Mellish (d 1855). Papers of Lt Col Henry Mellish (d 1927) relating to the settlement of the Chambers estate are also present in this series.

Many of the letters also include references to family and social matters, as well as estate business. A number relate quite closely to some of the letters listed in the correspondence series Me C.
