Sales particulars

This section comprises some 400 sales particulars, covering c.1814-1953, mostly for rural houses and estates in the area of North Lancashire around Lancaster, with odd items from around Preston and Liverpool, but including particulars for areas in Westmorland and West Yorkshire bordering on Lancashire; the index notes particulars for estates in other counties and in London, but most of these are missing. The particulars usually include plans of the property for sale, and many are annotated with prices realised at auction.

The original alphanumerical filing system has been recreated, so the firm's index (DDPC 3/2/1, reproduced as Appendix 1), which gives the property concerned and date of sale, should be consulted initially. Care should be taken with this index, as the title used is generally the township or village but often that of the estate or property itself. Cross-references appear to be few. Some inaccuracies in the index have been noted in the catalogue entries, as have those particulars which are missing.

The index, reproduced as Appendix 1, should be consulted first: the firm's reference code (A1, F12 etc.) should then be related to the catalogue entry and both references quoted in requesting the document.

Particulars which do not appear in the index, generally from the 1920s-1950s, are catalogued alphabetically by location at DDPC 3/2/18-43.
