1) The National Assistance Acts, 1948 to 1959 (except the power to make any scheme or schemes required to be made by the Council under those Acts)

2) The Disabled Persons (Employment) Act, 1958

3) So much of the Mental Health Act, 1959 as relates to the functions of Welfare Authorities.

AFTER 1964

In 1964 Luton became a County Borough and responsible for its own Welfare Services. As a result of this the County Welfare Management Sub-Committees were re-arranged into two divisions, i.e., Southern and Northern Divisional Management Committee of the Welfare Committee.

Southern Divisional Management Committee was responsible for the following homes:-

The Cedars, Ampthill; Caddington Hall; Chilterns, Dunstable; St.Margarets, Streatley; Pirton Hall, Shillington.

Northern Divisional Management Committee was responsible for the following homes:-

The Limes, Biggleswade; Russell and Waverley Houses, Bedford; Parkside and Rivermead, Kempston.

The Welfare General Purposes Sub-Committee was in abeyance.
