Single-acting engine, with 58 inch cylinder, 8 foot stroke, chain connection.General view of the engine and plan of the engine boiler (this drawing shows the engine with a parallel motion but is marked "To be worked with chains"), cross-section of the engine house showing framing and outside view and cross-section of the boiler - reverse drawings; sections and plan of the air pump and condenser etc. - reverse drawing; steam pipe marked "same as Wheal Virgin…"; gudgeon - reverse drawing; rough sketches and notes on the nozzles.

For Polgooth Mine. This was the second engine erected at Polgooth; the first was a 63 inch engine bought from Wheal Chance in 1783. According to the List of Engines made at Soho, this engine was stopped in Apr. 1787, but was used occasionally after that. It was still at the mine in May 1798. According to Dickinson & Jenkins [p. 342] the engine was also referred to as the "Coxshead engine".
