Description (What the record is about)
-
Numbers 2-6 are rough notebooks, small with no covers.
Numbers 7-15 are notebooks with hard covers.
Numbers 16-41 are 'Current and Permanent' notebooks.
These notebooks were used from both ends. One end was marked 'Current,' and is generally the more extensively used end, and one end was marked 'Permanent.' However this division is not made in the later books. The books record domestic and business memoranda, appointments, addresses, accounts, journies etc. etc. From 1804 to 1807 the books are tall and slim, but from 1808 they get much smaller. The later books appear to have been mainly used on journies rather than at home, and engine business is absent after 1809. -
