Among the writers are: -

H. Gough: (a) relating a disturbance at Tamworth about this year's land-tax: Perry Hall, 29 June, 1700. f.4: (b) on the prospects of a dissolution and election - he supposes Sir Edward Littleton "stands fast" with his Lordship's recommendation - If Lord Weymouth should think him (the writer) worthy of his recommendation he hopes he will acquaint the Corporation "of Tamworth" with the fact: London, 30 Nov. 1700. f.34: (c) is sorry he has offended Lord Weymouth but could not persuade himself that he had sunk so low in his "favour as to have Sergeant Girdler preferred before" him: Tamworth, 25 Nov. 1702. f.100.

Master of University College Oxford: (a) on a dispute between the University and the Oxford City but that on threatening "to discommune the whole Common Council" they submitted: Univ. Coll. 7 Dec. 1703. f.175: (b) on the election of a new Warden of Merton: 28 Mar. 1704. f.234: (c) on the same subject, Dr Martin being finally appointed, - on an accident to Dr Ralph Bathurst, aged 84, - that Lord Weymouth : best knows who is likely to succeed him" in the Deanery of Wales but that at Trinity Coll. "Dr Sykes and Mr Almont are likely to be returned" to the Bishop of Winchester for his choice of a President - that James Tyrrel disowns the authorship of "The Antidote against Rebellion, a late scurrilous pamphlet" - that "the first sheet of Lord Clarendon's 3rd volume is in the Presse":9 June, 1704. f.287: (d) sending "the Preface to Dr Bathurst's will: some singularityes relating to his Interment were grounded on an opinion he had long conceaved, that Bodys in ye Grave frequently not returned to Life" - "Dr Wallis has given the University his father's House, for the use of the two Sairlian Professors of Mathematics": 16 Nov. 1709. f.405.

19. Gregory King, Lancaster Herald, asking Lord Weymouth to be present at the Council when the "difference between the Earl of Carlisle, Earl Marshall and ye Heralds is to be heard, viz. "whether the Earl Marshall upon the present vacancy of a King of Arms ought not to nominate to her Matie on of ye members of ye Corporation of Heralds bred up to ye Faculty, or be at Liberty to nominate a stranger": 16 Mar. 1703[4]. f.230.

20. Thomas Betterton, Actor, to Col. Finch that he has "at Reading beside Shakespear's a Head of Chaucers, as big as ye life" and, he thinks, "no ill one", he has also "Sir John Suckling and Fletcher" if Lord Weymouth would like a any of them copied: London, 25 May, 1704, f.268.

Thomas Robinson: (a) concerning some pictures which had been cleaned, and also some "at Cobham Hall and are fallen to my lord Clarendon's share", viz. 20 Portraits of the Kings and Queens of England on board about 2 ft. broad "they are very ancient and ....... will be sold at 10 shill., per piece" f.276. that of Mary, Queen of Scots, on cloth being valued at £2. 10sh: I June, 1704: (b) further as to the pictures, he is glad Lord Weymouth will take them, and mentions "a whole length of K. Charles the; and original by Vansomer, well painted", and "a half length of Prince Rupert, the Head of it painted by Sir Peter Lely": 10 June, 1704. f.293: (c) describing other pictures at Cobham: 13 June, 1704. f.295: (d) further on the subject, he thinks that "the large Picture of Vandick with the two whole figures .... will sell for more than Li: "20 June, 1704. f.318: (e) that he has obtained permission to have a copy made of "Mr Childe's Picture by Carlo Dolce, of St Agatha:" 24 June, 1704. f.328: (f) that it is the Frame-maker's fault that the pictures have not yet been sent off: he gives a list of Prints which he is sending: 15 July, 1704. f.362: (g) he has "sent by Froome Waggon 3 Cases, one with the Prints, the other two are pictures, the remaining pictures of the Kings shall be sent down by next waggon": 27 July, 1704. f.376.

Peter le Neve, that the Heralds, etc. are being injured in their "imployments by the undertakers who are so bold to persuade the nobility and gentry to have the Tropheys of and belonging to them carried at funeralls without the attendance of the Officers of Arms", and that he hopes Lord Weymouth will employ the latter at his son's funeral: College of Arms, 21 Dec. 1708.
