Description: Private Arthur Taylor came from Osmaston near Ashbourne. He enlisted in an Irish regiment, the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons, and was on active service with them in South Africa from December 1901. A keen observer, his diary gives a fascinating insight into the frustrations of combat against the Boers, military tactics, contacts with 'Kaffirs' and the scenery and terrain of the South African veldt.
