Description

This collection comprises the letters and related papers of Private Robert Horne (1893-1918) who was killed in action at Gommecourt at the end of the First World War. There is little detail of fighting and battles contained within the correspondence. As a Christian, Horne notes religious thought and comments on the war from that perspective as well as recording his attendance at church and similar activities. Confined to hospital in England he also describes his lifestyle and attitude whilst recovering.

In addition to the letters of Robert Horne there are family papers, compiled subsequently, relating to his death and interrment in France as well as research on the relations and friends referred to in his correspondence
