Description

Margasirsha (November-December). A terrace scene with a prince and mistress kneeling; a man prays and a figure sleeps, heavily wrapped in a blanket. Jaipur, c.1850. Mounted in an album (formerly Album 70); presented 21 April 1915. Inscribed on yellow panel above miniature with five lines of text in nagari characters; on reverse a description based on the nagari text:' The month of Maug Shur, from the Baramassa - The cold is severe, the flowers are fadinq, this is the month for prayer, arid also for pleasure - Let no lover leave his mistress at such a time.'. Gouache with gold, blue and pink or red borders. 155 by 92 mm; page 245 by 183 mm.
