In 1881 a piece of land with two cottages recently built known as 9 -10 Park Terrace, abutting New Road on the north and west, was sold by Edward James to John William James. He then sold the property to Mark Medhurst, millwright, who mortgaged it to George Coles, tailor. Medhurst died in 1881 leaving the property to his father Samuel who died in 1887 leaving it to William Medhurst and William Pannett who paid off the mortgage in 1888.
