Description

The first lease commencing 1 November 1785 for 21 years at a yearly rent of £6 and 2 or 3 fat capons or 3s.4d. en lieu; the second lease commencing 30 October 1792 for 21 years at a yearly rent of £10 and 2 fat capons or 3s.4d en lieu from John Clarke of London silkman, surviving executor for the estate of Alderman John Clark of Coventry, with the permission of the Mayor Baliffs and Commonalty of Coventry to Richard Booth of Coventry, builder of, four pieces of land called 'Swans Croft', Lammas Land near Bishop Street, described in a plan not now attached to the deed. Boundaries of the first piece of land to the West, the Old Bedworth Road; East, the Coventry Canal; South, land of the Drapers Company and of George Eld of Coventry, draper; North, the property conveyed in PA 171/8/1. The boundaries of the second piece of land; to the South, property conveyed in PA 171/8/1; West, the boat house of the Coventry Canal Company, and the North by the Coventry Canal. The boundaries of the third piece of land are; to the East, the Coventry to Nuneaton Turnpike, South, land conveyed in PA 171/8/1 and the tow path of the Coventry Canal, West, the 'Navigation Coffee House' and the Old Bedworth Road, North, land called Pudding Pitts. The boundaries of the fourth piece of land are; to the North and North East, a lane owned by John Simpson; South, land conveyed in PA 171/8/1, West, the Coventry to Nuneaton Turnpike. The properties were formerly occupied by Christopher Davenport, then by Thomas Dullison, then by John Clarke.
