The day school was built by the Wesleyan Methodists in 1848. In 1867 the Brunswick Street Chapel, which ceased to be used as a chapel following the erection of St. Paul's Chapel in High Street, was converted into a schoolroom, and the boys' department was moved there from Granville Street. The schools were transferred to Runcorn School Board in 1895 and premises adjoining the Granville Street school were sold to the Board by the trustees.
