Photocopy of an ms diary (80pp) covering his service as an Able Seaman in the light cruiser HMS GLASGOW on the East Coast of South America Station, August 1914 - May 1916, with particular reference to her patrol and shipping examination duties in the South Atlantic and good descriptions of her part in the Battle of Coronel, the Battle of the Falkland Islands when she sank the German light cruiser LEIPZIG and the destruction of the German light cruiser DRESDEN off the Juan Fernandez Islands in the Pacific on 14 March 1915. The diary also includes some useful comments on conditions in GLASGOW following her hurried preparations for war in August 1914.
