Description

This collection of photographs follows on from deposit numbers 1331, 1333, 1430 and consists of pictures found among Dr Watt's own papers kept from his school and university days.

Administrative / biographical background

Dr Watt was born 13 September 1923 at 31 Westburn Drive, Aberdeen, his maternal grandmother's home. He is the son of Dr Thomas David Watt (1893 - 1958) and Mrs Elspet Jane Watt nee Murray, for whose collections of photographs see deposits 1331, 1333, 1430.

Dr Watt went to Bolton Road Primary School in Farnworth and then to Leigh Grammar School. He studied Medecine at Manchester University from 1941 to 1947, and went into General Practice with Dr Raymond Judson in Cheadle Hulme. In 1952, he moved to Handforth, where he still lives.

On 8 December 1956, he married Joan Marjorie Hudson who comes from Croydon in Surrey. Her father's family, however, came from Bacup in Lancashire, and their photographs have been copied; see deposits 1319, 1323, 1324, 1327, 1328, 1337, 1347. Her mother's family photographs are deposits: 1381, 1428, 1512, 1542, 1591.

Dr & Mrs Watt have three children: the Field Officer, Elizabeth Helen, David Hudson and John Newton.
