On the 14 August 1955, the Armstrong Siddeley Motors representative aboard HMS Eagle reported an accident to Wyvern WL.887 with Python P.262 installed after a total of 71 hours 35 minutes flying time. The following extract from the Service Department report details the incidents which led up to the crash. '... the pilot stated that after being airborne for 65 minutes there was a rumbling noise with violent shuddering of the aircraft, a drop in rpm of approximately 2,000 and the nose of the aircraft dropped. The engine then recovered. All this occurred without the throttle being moved. A check at full power conditions showed all the gauge readings were normal.'
