St. James' Church, at the corner of Charlotte Road and Packenham Road, was built in 1852 by Frederick Gough-Calthorpe, Lord Calthorpe to designs by S.S. Teulon. A parish was assigned out of St. Bartholomew's, Edgbaston in 1852. The living was a perpetual curacy until 1885 when it became a vicarage in the gift of Lord Calthorpe and his heirs.
The parish united with St. Bartholomew, Edgbaston in 1972 and St. Bartholomew's church became the parish church of the united benefice and St. James' Church became redundant in 1973.
