Papers relating to his career with the British and Indian Armies, 1914 - 1946, including: a ms memoir (19pp) of his background and service in the ranks and then as an officer with the Seaforth Highlanders in the UK (1914 - August 1915), active service on the Western Front as commander of the 30th Trench Mortar Battery (25th Division) (August 1915 - July 1916), notably in operations on Vimy Ridge and on the Somme where he was wounded, and with the 7th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders (9th Division) (October 1916); his ts account (2pp) of his experiences as Adjutant of the 114th Mahrattas during the Battle of Shargat in Mesopotamia (October 1918 - November 1918); a photograph album of officers and men of the Mahratta Light Infantry at Peshawar, India (?1936); a ts report (18pp) recording his command of the 3rd Battalion Mahratta Light Infantry in India, the Sudan, East Africa, and North Africa (1940 - October 1941), taking part in the capture of Gallabat and Keren; a ts account (2pp) of the storming of the Keren Heights by the 3rd Mahrattas; his ts narrative (65pp) of his command of the 29th Indian Brigade in the Western Desert (October 1941 - June 1942), notably at Tobruk (February 1942 - March 1942) and the Battles of Knightsbridge and 'The Cauldron' (June 1942); papers, including articles, narratives of operations, and reports relating to his command of 10th Indian Division (V and X Corps) in Italy (June 1944 - December 1944), during the Battles of Cassino and the Gothic Line and the advance to the River Senio; ts accounts of the operations of the 3rd Battalion Mahratta Light Infantry (7pp) in Italy (March 1945 - January 1946) and the 28th Battalion 5th Mahratta Light Infantry (3pp) in India (May 1943 - 1946); miscellaneous papers relating to his postwar career, mainly lectures and talks on India, the Indian Army and Scotland (1951 - 1953), correspondence relating to the Maratha and Mahratta Light Infantry (1961 - 1966), and correspondence (October 1967 - November 1967) from former Mahratta officers providing anecdotes for the Regiment's 200th centenary dinner (1967); and miscellaneous photographs of Indian troops.
