Among these papers are the will of Sir William Garrard and an exceptionally complete inventory of all his possessions. Otherwise the documents consist chiefly of deeds relating to the various properties, including Lamer, which were at one time or another owned by the family. The earliest relates to a transfer of land dated 2 Ric III (1485).
Among the personal papers, of which there are not many, is a small number of letters exchanged between Charles Drake Garrard and Bulwer Lytton beginning when they were school-fellows at Westminster, and also a correspondence with Lord Melbourne of Brocket Hall concerning a boundary dispute

The Garrard family, which for many generations owned Lamer Park near Wheathampstead in Hertfordshire, was founded by Sir William Garrard, Lord Mayor of London in 1555, who died in 1571
