This is a folder compiled by Mr Hale comprising photocopies of the Wickwar Corporation general entry book, 1833-1881, and a manuscript notebook about the history of Wickwar, 1844, with a floppy disk (in Word 97 format) containing transcripts of both volumes. The originals are in the possession of Mr N Webb, landlord of the Railway Hotel, Clutton, Somerset.
Wickwar was a borough incorporated by royal grant. It had a mayor and twelve aldermen; the mayor was elected from among the aldermen annually, and the aldermen were elected out of the freehold inhabitants. The general entry book contains minutes of their court, 1833-1881, which dealt with elections of the mayor, his aldermen and two aldermen trustees of Wickwar endowed school.
The notebook on the history of Wickwar was written in 1844 by Mr Thomas Garlick, who was mayor between 1833 and 1836.
