The Alder Spinning Company was formed in May 1905 with a capital of £100,000 and the first sod cut in June of that year, on the site near Butts Bridge in Leigh. The company was later known as the Alder Spinning Co. (1920) Ltd. and became a part of the Combined Egyptian Mills group, which in turn became a part of Carrington Viyella Ltd.
