Copy Press Letter Book

This volume is entitled on the front cover, 'No. 9. Cornwall. Feby. 2nd to April 5. 1782 No.'.

It has a paper cover. It contains seventy-two pages with fifty-seven copy-press letters from James Watt, most of which have been pasted into the volume in chronological order. There were about twenty loose copy press letters which had been joined by a brass stud, found between pages1 and 2, all dated 1805 and some extremely faint. These have now bween moved to LB/4 and are listed at the appropriate date. Four copy- press letters were found loose between pages 57 and 58, all dated 23 Mar. 1782; one copy press letter was found loose between pages 67 and 68, dated 2 Apr. 1782; and four copy press letters were found loose between pages 71 and 72, dated 9 to 18 Apr. 1782. These are listed at the appropriate date.
The pages and entries have now been numbered, but these numbers are not original. Pages 9 and 10 are blank. There was no index.
The copy-press letters are all in Watt's hand. Most of the letters were written at Cusgarne in Cornwall.
