Administrative / biographical background

Worcester Lodge was granted an interim warrant by the Moderns' Grand Lodge to meet as No. 574 on 2 October 1790, which was re-issued as a permanent warrant dated 9 October 1790. The Lodge was consecrated on 19 May 1791.In 1792 the Lodge was renumbered as No. 483. After the Moderns' and the Antients' Grand Lodges formed a union as the United Grand Lodge fo England in 1813, the Lodge met as No. 526. In 1832 the Lodge was renumbered as No. 349 and in 1863 as No. 280, its present number. In 1790 the Lodge met at the Reindeer Inn, Meal Cheapen Street, Worcester and then at various inns, taverns and masonic halls. The Lodge has met at the Masonic Hall, Rainbow Hill, Worcester since 1960.
