Administrative / biographical background

Introductory note

This small collection of deeds revolves around the Palmer family estate at Wood Court in Ashill, and their acquisition and dispersal of properties there.

Though the original arrangement of the bundles has not been preserved due to accidents of custody, some attempt has been made to reconstitute them relying on internal evidence.

The estate was acquired by the Rev. William Palmer in 1825; by 1863 it was in the hands of Robert William Palmer, and in 1886 it belonged to a Francis Palmer.

The Palmer family remained owners of Wood Court until the second World War.
