Description (What the record is about)
-
The grants of annuity have been arranged in four bundles as a single chronological series. They are a curious, not to say dubious, class and the presence of some of them here might be questioned. Those dealing with the rectories of Gatcombe and St. Lawrence could be assigned to some other sub-group of the main deposit but have been allowed to remain here under suspicion that they reflect some family arrangement or trustee business. Of the remainder one was made by Leonard Troughear Holmes, JER/HBY/132/1, one by John Delgarno, Leonard Thomas Worsley Holmes's father-in-law, JER/HBY/132/5, and two jointly by James East and Leonard Thomas Worsley Holmes, JER/HBY/133/1-2. Some were made for the life of the grantor, others for the life of the grantee.
