Other Data: Roll of Honour (de Ruvigny) Vol 3, p 102:youngest son of Edward Land of Mile Cottage, Chichester, Liveryman and Member of the Fishmonger's Company, by his wife Alice, d. of Major James R Taylor of Saddleworth, Yorks. B Lowestoft 20/7/1888, Educated Dulwich College, was a Cadet in the University OTC. Gazetted 2/Lt Y&L Regt June 1915. Promoted Lt 1917, Served BEF from May 1916. Was wounded during Somme engagements in Oct 1916. On recovery was attached to MGC and returned France Dec 1917. KIA Lagnicourt 21/3/1918 whilst holding up the enemy advance. His CO wrote "we cannot express in writing our admiration of your son - he was a "white man" through and through" He married at the Parish Church, Roker, Sunderland, 9/1/1916, Gladys May, only d. of Fred Chamberlain of Bowden, Cheshire. (without issue)
Dulwich College Register: born 20/7/1888 …….killed in action at Lagnicourt, while endeavouring to return to his guns through a barrage…..(in command of a machine gun battery. (PHOTOGRAPH - Dulwich College roll of honour)
