Records of the City Terminus Permanent Building Society

This collection contains the records of the City Terminus Building Society. The collection includes the rules of the society; share certificates from 1892 to 1907; prospectus from 1946; various mortgage records and insurance policies relating to members property dating from 1888 to 1942; members will from 1980; collection of mortgages taken on from the Pall Mall Building Society after they dissolved in 1950

The majority of records are open for viewing. More modern records are subject to restrictions

The City Terminus Building Society was set up in 1881 and originally had its office at Broad Street Buildings in the City of London. It later moved its offices to Little Queen Street in Westminster. The building society sector went through a period of consolidation after the Second World War - the City Terminus joined forces with the Holloway Building Society in 1957 to form the Holloway and City Terminus Building Society. This society went through a number of mergers and name changes before becoming part of the Anglia Building Society in 1983. In 1987 the Anglia and Nationwide Building Societies joined forces and the legacy business of the City Terminus became part of Nationwide.
