Annual returns stating names, professions and residence of members of Royal Oak Lodge [Moderns] and general correspondence relating to the running of the Lodge. Years 1779 - 1783; 1785 - 1786; 1789 - 1798; 1807; 1812; and 1814 - 1825 are not extant.

Administrative / biographical background

Royal Oak Lodge was granted a warrant to meet at the Royal Oak inn, Kirkgate, Ripon, Yorkshire as No. 495 by the Moderns' Grand Lodge on 22 June 1776. The Lodge was renumbered as No. 400 in 1780, as No. 401 in 1781 and No. 324 in 1792. From 1809 the Lodge met at the Minster Inn, Cathedral Yard, Ripon. After the union between the Moderns' and Antients' Grand Lodges to form the United Grand Lodge of England, the Lodge was renumbered as No. 412. The Lodge was erased on 5 March 1828.
