Description (What the record is about)
-
This material largely consists of deeds which trace the descent of the manor of Hadzor and subsequently acquired lands in the parish and adjoining areas from 1543 to 1823 when the estate was purchased by John Howard Galton from the Amphlett family. An abstract drawn up prior to Galton's purchase of the estate provides a summary (see MS3101/A/B/4/1). Papers relating to the management of the Hadzor estate under John Howard Galton are also included; these mainly comprise rentals and valuations of his property, and details of alterations he made to the house and grounds. For correspondence relating to John Howard Galton's purchase of the Hadzor estate, see MS3101/C/D/12.
