In September of 1954 the works and assets of Dorman Long and Co. Ltd were split into three separate companies with the original company remaining only as a holding company. One of these three, Dorman Long (Steel), was charged to run the works and mines directly and indirectly linked with the production and processing of steel and steel products and was launching with a initial capital of £100,000 split into 100,000 Ordinary Shares of £1 each.
The company continued to produce and process steel products until the nationalisation of the steel producing industry in 1967.
