Catalogue of Old Engines p. 304.
For Herland Mine. This cylinder was for an existing engine which had begun work in 1792. The engine was assembled from materials from a 63 inch engine, formerly Poldice Mine No. 3, which had worked at Chacewater Mine from Jul. 1787 to Apr. 1789. The original cylinder was re-sold to Poldice, and all the other materials went to Herland Mine, or Manor Mine as it appears to have also been called. Herland bought a new 64 inch cylinder, which made it the largest single-acting Boulton & Watt engine erected in Cornwall. On 6 Mar. 1799 Thomas Wilson reported that the cylinder had broken, and these drawings were duly made for its replacement. Henry Hazleton erroneously identified this as a complete new engine in the Catalogue of Old Engines.
