'Miscellaneous' files series

Description

A numbered series of correspondence files from the Architects department own filing system concerning three areas of the departments functions:- administration, regulations and finances. The administrative files include topics such as the microfilming of records, administrative procedures within the architects department and the departments involvement with various County Council working parties such as the Computer Working Party and the Vandalism and Security Working Party. Also included are files containing names and information about firms and companies that are to be included on the approved list of contractors eligible to tender for construction work under the competitive tendering procedure.

The correspondence files connected with regulations that effect the County Architects department include items such as: Building Survey reports, concerning repairs and maintenance of listed buildings in the County, files concerning meeting the requirements of fire safety and fire precautions in all council property; files concerning Health and Safety requirements in council buildings, also including the removal of asbestos; and matters, re: materials used in the construction of buildings, such as types of bricks and roof trusses; and finally, correspondence involving Luton Town FC and the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975.

The files connected with financial matters include the following: capital programmes carried out by the architects department, mainly dealing with educational buildings such as schools, as well as fire service and police building requirements; minor works programmes, such as improvements/extensions, including social services home improvements; and finally, general maintenance policies and programmes throughout County Council properties.
