Daniel Doncaster & Sons, Steel manufacturers. The firm, which is still active, began as a cutlery business in the later 18th century. In the 1830s it turned over to steel making. The earliest records listed here seem to refer to cutlery. The Library has no record of muniments in the firm's hands.
The collection consists of a small number of items, falling into two groups:
Firm's records: Ledger, daybook, cash books (3), passbooks (2), 1829-1856; petty cash ledgers (2), 1844-1900; letter book, 1869-1871.
Sheffield Friends' records: First-day school reports (printed), 1872-1880, accounts, subscription lists, 1857-1881 (5 notebooks); admissions to Ackworth (from Sheffield Meeting), 1839-1878 (book of particulars). Coffee Cart Co., minutes, cash book, 1875-1907 (3 books).
