A school chapel was built in Oakland Street by the Wesleyan Methodists in 1873. A new chapel, known as Hartland Chapel, was built fronting on Irwell Street in 1883. The old schoolroom was demolished and a new building erected in 1902. Hartland Chapel closed in 1981.
