He also steadied a perty of infantry who were giving ground under the intensity of the bombardment.;

private papers in IWM collection (7151):Photocopied ms diary (41pp) covering his service as a Lieutenant with the Machine Gun Corps on the Western Front, April - July 1918, and his capture on Mount Kemmel and subsequent life as a prisoner of war in Belgium and Germany at Rastatt and Gaudenz camps, largely describing food, reading matter and general conditions in the camps but containing little reflection and few details.
