Main points of interest: 1 Javelin Sa.6 - second prototype now flying and will be at the SBAC Show, but will be restricted to 400 knots because of elevator trouble. There is still a problem with reheat. 2 Javelin Sa.4 - Installation design work on this is going ahead. 3 The only major criticism Gloster's have with the Sapphire from the installation point of view is: The vapour outlet system from the centre bearing. Because of the fire risk these have to be ducted to the rear and discharged through outlets separate from the jet pipe. Apart from the questions of weight, space and drag, the oil mist from these outlets fouls the fuselage. Apart from this being undesirable in principle, in later versions certain radar aerials will have to be located in this vicinity. In addition the EEL.3 oil used attacks some paints used for aircraft finishes
