Description

Mortgage

1. Samuel Groves of Priest Weston in the parish of Chirbury, farmer, eldest son and heir at law of William Groves, late of Shelve, yeoman, deceased

2. Thomas Jones of Shrewsbury, grocer Samuel Groves on 2 May last borrowed from Thomas Jones £600 and by a bond of 1 May last Samuel Groves was bound to Thomas Jones in £1200 for repayment of £600 and interest at 5 % p.a. on 1 Nov. next. Samuel Groves has applied to Thomas Jones for a further £400 and has agreed to demise the houses, farms and lands below as security for £400 and for the better securing of £600.

In consideration of the £600 already paid, and of £400 to Groves,

Groves demises :-

House and farm with lands belonging (106a) in Great Weston alias Priest Weston, Chirbury (heretofore Arthur Williams, now Sam. Groves) Messuage and lands in Little Weston, Chirbury (once John Jones, now Sam. Groves) - all of which premises were by lease and release of 24 & 25 March 1772 between the Rt Hon Henry Arthur Earl of Powis (1) Wm Groves (2) Thos Butler of Marrington, Chirbury, yeoman (3) conveyed to and in trust for Wm Groves and his heirs forever.

To hold to Thomas Jones for 700 years subject to a proviso for redemption. Sam. Groves agrees and declares that the personal representative of George Clive late of Fleet St., London, Esq., deceased, shall stand and be possessed of the houses, farm and lands above for the rest of 4 terms of 1000 yrs, 500 yrs, 1000 yrs and 2000 yrs affecting the premises and assigned to Geo. Clive by deed of 7 April 1770 on trusts in trust for Thomas Jones for better securing to him repayment of £1000.

Dorse: 1 Nov. 1825 Thomas Jones acknowledges to have received from Mr Powell Bemand £1000 secured by mortgage of the estate of Sam. Groves.
