These documents also include certificates of resignation by a notary public, and some are endorsed with the bishop's acceptance of the resignation. For each resignation from 1877 to 1908 there is a bundle of papers consisting mainly of correspondence and reports of the commissions of inquiry set up under the Incumbents' Resignation Acts, 1871 and 1887 (34 & 35 Vict. c.44; 50 & 51 Vict. c.23)
