Description

Folios 269-270. Letter from Walter May Barton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union, to the Local Government Board, enclosing a copy of a resolution passed at the meeting of the board of guardians of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union on 17 November 1879, in respect of the office of clerk to the guardians.
Extract from minutes of a meeting of the board of guardians held 17 November 1879, stating that a letter from the Local Government Board was laid before them. In the letter the Board expressed their regret at being informed of the circumstances under which Charles Wright resigned his appointment as Clerk to the Guardians. They also state that they are considering the remuneration to be assigned to Wright's successor and that they are willing that the remuneration for the services of the clerk to the guardians, as clerk to the school attendance committee and as clerk to the rural sanitary authority should also be taken into account. It was resolved that Walter May Barton, Solicitor, of East Dereham, Norfolk be appointed as Clerk to the Guardians of the Mitford and Launditch Poor law Union. It was further resolved that until the end of the present financial year the remuneration will be at the same rate as Wright had been receiving and that upon expiry of the financial year the salaries will be revised by the board of guardians.
