Description (What the record is about)
-
The lease for a year (AMS6325/1), part of a settlement of the estates of the Luxford family of Higham in Salehurst, was almost certainly among the documents purchased by the Carlisle Stamp Company from Messrs Dawes, Son & Prentice in the 1980s; Edwin Dawes was related to a partner in that firm, which acted for the Luxfords
The two drawings can be identified with Brighton properties, and the style of their endorsement confims that they formed part of the archive of the Brighton Town Commissioners and Brighton Borough Council, stored at Brighton Town Hall before their deposit in 1982. For similar material from that deposit, see DB/B71, especially 52-91
The letter from John Dorington to Attree & Cooper concerning the Brighton Town Bill may derive either from the archive of Brighton Corporation or from that of Howlett & Clarke, solicitors, the successors of the practice
