David Basset is first recorded as a corn dealer in Maidenhead in 1869, with premises in Bridge Road. He is later recorded at Queen Street Chambers (1887), King Street (1891) and 14 Bell Street (1895-1924). Between 1915 and 1920 the firm was renamed as David Basset & Co Ltd. From the early 1890s onward, the firm was a malster as well as a corn merchant
David Basset himself was born in Uxbridge, Middlesex, in c. 1850-1
