Crossley (West) Hospital was established in 1901 as the Liverpool Sanatorium, part of the Liverpool Hospital for Consumption and Diseases of the Chest. Crossley (East) was established in 1904 as Crossley Sanatorium, part of the Manchester Hospital for Consumption and Diseases of the Throat and Chest. After the introduction of the NHS in 1948, the two parts were administered as a single unit. It ceased to be a tuberculosis sanatorium, and was used mainly for long-stay patients. It is now closed.
