Contains deposition papers. These documents contain verbatim (word for word) copies of evidence from the examination of witnesses in church court lawsuits. The witness's name, age, occupation, and places of residence (past and present) are usually given.
For example in the cause Alicia Nightingale, wife of Thomas the younger, of Maidstone, Kent against Stephen Page. 1 August 1754:
Walter Boone, collar maker, aged 40 years, of Maidstone, Kent who 'has lived there for 15 years'.
In June 1753 Walter Boon 'was standing at his door he heard the articulate Thomas Nightingale and the defendant Stephen Page have warm words pass between them... Thomas Nightingale speaking to the said Stephen Page say I never kept a whore in my house to which Mr Page replied nor I as I know of and further added was not your now wife (the said Alicia Nightingale) kept like a whore before she was married to you at Lord George's (meaning the House of William Grundell who is commonly called Lord George)'.
