Red and gold leather bound album with decorative cover (front cover detached), measuring 296x239mm and containing photographs, engravings, watercolour sketches and pressed flowers. Non-photographic material relating to India has been catalogued in Mildred Archer, British Drawings in the India Office Library (vol I, pp.144-5, HMSO, 1969). The decorative titlepage of the album is signed 'Louisa Compton. Janry. 1861', and a note on the front free endpaper reads: 'Presented October 1956 by the Rev. H.S. Cochran in memory of his grandmother Louisa Compton (whose album it was), widow of Abingdon Compton, Judge of Sholapore, India, in 1857'. Louisa Compton was the wife of Thomas Abingdon Compton (1820-62), a Bombay Company servant who was judge at Sholapur from 1855. He died by drowning in the Sangum River in 1862.
